Comparison · Jura E8 vs S8

Jura E8 vs S8: which should you buy refurbished?

Short answer: Buy the E8 if your household drinks one or two regular coffees and wants the lowest-priced one-touch milk Jura. Buy the S8 if several people share it and like adjusting drinks on a touchscreen. Coffee quality is very close; on a refurbished machine, service history matters more than the model.

Key facts

  • Both make one-touch milk drinks and clean themselves the same way.
  • S8 adds a colour touchscreen and more personalisation.
  • Both suit up to roughly 20 cups a day at home.
  • Refurbished, both are commonly under $2000, with the S8 above the E8.

What is the real difference between the E8 and S8?

Inside, less than the price gap suggests. Both are Jura one-touch machines that make espresso, long blacks and milk drinks at the press of a button, both use Jura’s pulse extraction for short coffees, and both clean themselves the same way. The S8 is the more premium model: a colour touchscreen instead of buttons, more drink choices you can personalise, and a more upmarket finish.

Does the S8 make better coffee than the E8?

In a blind taste test of a flat white made with the same beans, most people could not pick them apart. Coffee quality on both comes down to fresh beans, the right grind and a clean machine. The S8’s advantage is control: it is easier to change strength, volume and milk for each drink and save it, so a household with different preferences gets closer to what each person likes.

Which is more reliable second hand?

Both are dependable when they have been looked after, and both wear the same parts: brew unit seals, O-rings and the milk system. On a second-hand machine the history matters far more than the model. A neglected S8 is a worse buy than a well-kept E8. That is why we strip and service every machine before selling it, rather than just cleaning the outside. Our second-hand vs refurbished guide covers what to check.

Who should buy the E8?

  • You mostly drink one or two drinks — a flat white and a long black, say.
  • You want the lowest price for a one-touch milk Jura.
  • You prefer physical buttons to a screen.

Who should buy the S8?

  • Several people with different orders share the machine.
  • You like adjusting strength and milk and saving favourites.
  • You want the nicer finish on a kitchen bench and are happy to pay a little more.

What about the E6 or Z10 instead?

If you drink mainly black coffee, a simpler model can save money — see our which Jura should I buy guide. If you want cold brew and the best milk texture Jura makes, step up to the Z10; our Z10 guide explains what it does differently.

How to decide in two minutes

Count the drinks your household makes on a normal day and how many different orders there are. One or two orders: E8. Three or more, or people who fiddle with strength: S8. Then buy the best-maintained machine you can find in that model, not the cheapest listing.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Jura S8 worth the extra over the E8?

If several people with different orders share the machine, yes — the touchscreen makes personalising drinks easy. For one or two regular drinks, the E8 makes coffee that is very hard to tell apart.

Do the E8 and S8 use the same cleaning products?

Yes. Both use Jura-compatible cleaning tablets, descaler or a water filter, and a milk system cleaner.

Which is more reliable, the E8 or S8?

Both are reliable when maintained and wear the same parts. On a second-hand machine, its service history matters more than the model.

How many coffees a day can an E8 or S8 make?

Both suit home use up to roughly 20 cups a day. Above that, look at the WE8 or a GIGA.

Can I buy a refurbished E8 or S8 in Melbourne?

Yes. Chameleon Coffee sells refurbished E8 and S8 machines serviced in our Melbourne workshop, shipped Australia-wide or collected locally.
