Jura E8 review: the refurbished all-rounder we recommend most
Short answer: the E8 is the Jura we point most households at, and the one we sell most. It makes 17 drinks at one touch – espresso, long black, flat white, cappuccino, latte macchiato – with Jura’s pulsed extraction, a quiet Professional Aroma Grinder and the Fine Foam Frother G2 that rinses itself. It handles about 20 cups a day, fits a normal bench, and every wearing part is serviceable. Refurbished from our workshop it is around $1,049 against a new RRP of about $2,700, with a new brew unit and a 12-month warranty.
- The E8s we sell are the 2018-onward EB generation: 17 specialities, 2.8-inch colour display, Professional Aroma Grinder, Fine Foam Frother G2, Pulse Extraction Process.
- Capacity: about 1.9-litre tank, 280g hopper, 16-puck grounds container – comfortable for a household, up to around 20 cups a day.
- Every wearing part – brew unit, pump, grinder, valves, seals, thermoblock – is replaceable, which is why a refurbished E8 is a ten-year machine.
- Refurbished around $1,049 at the time of writing (new RRP about $2,700); 12-month warranty; $50 freight or free Melbourne pickup.
What the E8 does well
The coffee
Jura’s Pulse Extraction Process pushes water through the grounds in short bursts rather than one continuous flow, and the difference shows most in short drinks: an E8 espresso has body and crema that continuous-pump automatics do not match. Long blacks are excellent – hot water first, two short shots on top. Strength, volume and temperature are adjustable per drink and the settings stick.
The milk
The Fine Foam Frother G2 draws milk from a container through a tube, textures it, and makes the whole drink in one press. The foam is fine and consistent – lighter than café microfoam, and it will not pour latte art – and the system rinses itself after each milk drink, which is the feature that keeps an E8 hygienic in a busy kitchen. Flat whites, cappuccinos and lattes come out the same every time, whoever pressed the button.
The grinder
The Professional Aroma Grinder is quiet, holds its setting, and grinds evenly enough that the E8’s coffee stays consistent for years. It wants dry, medium-roast beans – best coffee beans for Jura machines.
Living with it
Rinses on start-up and shut-down, prompts its own cleaning and filter changes, and with a CLARIS filter fitted you almost never descale. Day to day it is the drip tray and grounds container. It sits about 28cm wide and fills from the top, so allow height under overhead cupboards.
What it does not do
- No touchscreen. Buttons and a 2.8-inch display, which some people prefer and some do not. Saved personal drinks and a bigger screen are the S8’s job.
- No cold brew. That is the Z10.
- Milk container is separate – a bottle or Jura’s container beside the machine.
- Not an office machine. It copes with a home office or a team of ten; beyond about 20 cups a day the WE8 is the right tool.
- Ours are used. Expect marks on the case; we send photos of the exact machine before it ships.
E8 vs the alternatives
| Against | Where the E8 wins | Where the other wins |
|---|---|---|
| Jura ENA 8 | Bigger tank and hopper, more drinks | ENA 8 is narrower for a small kitchen |
| Jura S8 | Same coffee, less money | S8 has the touchscreen and saved drinks – E8 vs S8 |
| Jura Z10 | Half the price | Z10 adds cold brew, a faster grinder and better milk |
| Breville Barista Touch (new) | Push-button, self-cleaning, 10–15 year life | Breville makes denser milk if you learn the wand – Jura vs Breville |
| DeLonghi Dinamica (new) | Extraction, grinder noise, lifespan | New in a box |
Buying a refurbished E8
Every E8 we sell has had its brew unit replaced, every seal and O-ring renewed, the steam assembly refitted, the pumps resealed and pressure tested, the sensors and ceramic valve tested, the grinder recalibrated with new brushes, the boilers descaled and the water circuit flushed – then a run with real coffee before sign-off. It carries a 12-month warranty on those internals, honoured in our Melbourne workshop with freight both ways on accepted claims. If you are weighing up a private-sale E8 instead, our second-hand E8 checklist tells you what to test. And once you own one, the E8 manual and care guide covers cleaning, descaling and what the messages mean.
Who should buy the E8
A household of two or more coffee drinkers who want flat whites and lattes every day without anyone learning anything; a home office; a small business of up to ten people. If you drink only black coffee, the ENA 4 or E4 saves money. If you want a touchscreen, buy the S8. Otherwise, this is the one.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Jura E8 worth it?
For a household drinking milk coffee daily, yes – it is the best balance of coffee, milk automation, quiet and lifespan in the range. Refurbished, it costs about what a new mid-range Breville does.
How many coffees a day can a Jura E8 make?
About 20 a day comfortably. Beyond that, the office-grade WE8 has the tank and grounds capacity.
Does the Jura E8 make a good flat white?
Yes – one press, textured fine foam, self-rinsing milk system. It is lighter than café microfoam and will not pour latte art.
What is the difference between the E8 and the S8?
The S8 adds a 4.3-inch touchscreen and saved personal drinks. The coffee is the same. Full comparison on our E8 vs S8 page.
How much is a refurbished Jura E8?
Around $1,049 at the time of writing against a new RRP of about $2,700, with a new brew unit and a 12-month warranty. The product page has today’s price.
