Jura S8 manual: touchscreen care and messages

Short answer: The S8 manual is in Jura’s official support library, linked from our manuals page. Day to day, use the maintenance status screen weekly, clean the milk system daily if you drink milk, run a cleaning tablet and descale or change the filter when prompted, and book a service every 12–18 months.

Key facts

  • S8 maintenance status is on the touchscreen — check it weekly.
  • Milk clean: cappuccino cleaner, started from the maintenance menu.
  • Filter activated in settings replaces descaling prompts.
  • Leaks and unresponsive screens after a restart are workshop jobs.

Where can I get the Jura S8 manual?

Jura publishes the S8 instructions in its official support library, searchable by model and serial number. Our Jura manuals page links there and lists PDFs for older S-line models such as the S9. Because the S8 is driven by its touchscreen, most settings can be found without the paper manual — this page covers the part owners get stuck on: care and messages.

How is S8 care different from an E8?

Mechanically the S8 cleans the same way as the rest of the one-touch range: switch-on rinse, cleaning tablet, descale or filter, and a milk system that must be cleaned. The difference is the screen. The S8 shows maintenance status on the touchscreen, so you can see how close it is to its next clean and start a milk clean from the menu instead of waiting to be told.

Two habits make the biggest difference on an S8: use the maintenance status screen once a week, and do the milk clean on a set day rather than when you remember.

What do the Jura S8 touchscreen messages mean?

Fill water tank / Insert tank

Low water or a tank not pushed fully home. A cracked tank valve can trigger it too.

Empty grounds container / Tray missing

Empty both together, and leave the tray out for a few seconds so the machine registers it.

Milk system cleaning

Start it from maintenance, put the milk pipe in a container with cappuccino cleaner and water, and follow the prompts. Skipping this is the most common reason an S8 foams poorly.

Cleaning / Descaling / Filter

Follow the screen. With the filter activated in settings, descaling prompts stop; the filter prompt replaces them.

A message you cannot clear

If the screen freezes or a message returns immediately, switch off at the button, wait a minute and restart. If it persists, note the exact wording and book a repair.

Which S8 faults need a technician?

  • Leaking from underneath or around the drip tray.
  • Unresponsive touchscreen after a restart.
  • Weak, cool or watery coffee that does not improve after a cleaning cycle.
  • Grinder running without coffee coming through.

S8 or upgrade?

The S8 sits between the E8 and the Z range. If yours needs major parts, a refurbished S8 is often close to the repair bill. If you want cold brew as well as hot coffee, look at the Z10. Our E8 vs S8 comparison covers whether the touchscreen is worth it.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the maintenance status on a Jura S8?

Open the settings or maintenance area on the touchscreen. It shows how close the machine is to its next cleaning, descaling or filter change, and lets you start the milk system clean yourself.

Why is my S8 milk foam thin or spitting?

Almost always a milk system that needs a full clean, not just a rinse. Run the milk clean with cappuccino cleaner and check the milk pipe is pushed fully onto the spout.

Do I need to descale an S8 with a filter?

No, provided the filter is activated in the settings. Change it when the machine prompts, roughly every two months.

My S8 screen is frozen. What should I do?

Switch off at the button, wait about a minute and restart. If it stays frozen or unresponsive, it needs a workshop check.

How long does a Jura S8 last?

With regular cleaning and servicing every 12–18 months, 10–15 years is typical for Jura automatic machines.
