What refurbished means at Chameleon Coffee: our process and warranty
Short answer: every Jura we sell has been tested on arrival, stripped, cleaned and sanitised, had its wear parts replaced, its brew group and water circuit serviced, its grinder and extraction recalibrated, and been run through full test cycles before it is listed. Then it is covered by our warranty on parts and labour, serviced in our own Melbourne workshop. That is what refurbished means here. It is not a wipe-down and a descale.
- We have serviced and refurbished Jura machines in Melbourne since 2009. Refurbishment is our main business, not a sideline.
- Wear parts are replaced as standard, not only when they have already failed.
- Every machine is run through multiple coffee, milk and cleaning cycles and leak-checked before sale.
- Warranty on parts and labour, honoured by the technicians who refurbished the machine. Australian Consumer Law guarantees apply on top.
Step 1: intake testing
Before anything is touched, the machine is run as it arrived: espresso, long black, milk if it has a milk system, rinse and cleaning programs. We record what works, what does not, and what the machine is telling us through its display and its sounds. This is how we know the faults before we start, rather than discovering them after the case is back on.
Step 2: strip and clean
The case comes off. The brew group comes out. The milk system, bean hopper, water circuit and drip tray assembly are cleaned and sanitised. Years of coffee oils and milk residue live in places a cleaning tablet never reaches; this is the step that gets to them.
Step 3: wear parts replaced
Seals and O-rings in the brew group and the water circuit are replaced as a matter of course, along with the valves and small components that wear with every cycle. Pumps, heating elements and grinder parts are replaced when intake testing or inspection says so. The rule is simple: if it is a part that wears, and the machine is going out with our warranty on it, it is renewed.
Step 4: brew group and water circuit service
The brew group – the unit that compresses the coffee and pushes water through it – is serviced and reassembled to specification. The water circuit, thermoblock and valves are descaled and flushed, and a fresh water filter fitted where the model uses one.
Step 5: calibration
Grinder, dose and extraction are set so the machine makes the coffee it was designed to make. On one-touch models, milk temperature and foam are checked and adjusted.
Step 6: test cycles
Multiple coffees and milk drinks, every cleaning and rinse program, and a leak check with the case on. If anything is not right, it goes back to the bench. Nothing is listed on the basis of a single good shot.
What refurbished does not mean
- It does not mean new. Machines are typically three to ten years old and may carry light marks on the case. The inside is what has been renewed.
- It does not mean the latest generation. Expect one or two generations behind current, with fewer programmed drinks. The extraction is the same.
- It does not mean a new-machine manufacturer warranty. It means our warranty, backed by the people who did the work and can do it again.
The warranty
Every refurbished machine carries a warranty on parts and labour. If a fault develops in the warranty period, you contact us and we repair it in our Melbourne workshop – we know the machine, we have the parts, and it was our work in the first place. The warranty period and terms are stated with each machine, and Australian Consumer Law guarantees apply to every sale by a business regardless. Our returns and warranty policy has the detail.
Why Jura machines refurbish so well
Because they were built to be serviced. The brew group, pump, grinder, valves and heating element are all replaceable units, and parts are readily available across the range from older Impressa models to the current E, S and Z series. Replace the wearing parts and a ten-year-old Jura has the same working life ahead of it as a machine several years younger. Cheaper automatics are not designed this way, which is why we do not refurbish them.
Which machines we refurbish
The Jura range: ENA, E, S, Z and Giga home models, the older Impressa series, and the WE, X and Giga X office models. Stock changes weekly as machines come through the workshop. See which Jura should I buy? to narrow it down, or call and ask what is in.
Ask what was done to the exact machine you are looking at
We can tell you. Every refurbished Jura is listed with its warranty, and we service the machines we sell, in Melbourne, since 2009.
Frequently asked questions
Do your refurbished Jura machines come with a warranty?
Yes – on parts and labour, serviced in our Melbourne workshop. The period and terms are stated with each machine.
What parts do you replace?
Seals, O-rings and wearing valve components as standard; pumps, heating elements and grinder parts whenever testing or inspection calls for it.
How old are your refurbished machines?
Typically three to ten years. Age matters less than the refurbishment: the wearing parts are new and the brew group has been serviced.
Are refurbished machines hygienic?
Yes. The milk system, brew group and water circuit are stripped, cleaned and sanitised, and the seals are replaced.
What happens if something goes wrong after I buy?
Call us. Warranty repairs are done by the technicians who refurbished the machine, in Melbourne.
