Jura ENA 8 review: the compact one-touch Jura for small kitchens

Short answer: the ENA 8 is the smallest Jura that makes the full one-touch menu – flat white, cappuccino, latte macchiato, espresso, long black – in a body about 27cm wide that fits an apartment bench or a reception counter. It uses the same pulsed extraction as the E8 and a self-rinsing milk system, and it gives up tank and hopper size to get there, which makes it right for one or two people and wrong for a family. Refurbished it is around $949 against a new RRP of about $1,595, with a new brew unit and a 12-month warranty.

Key facts

  • About 27cm wide – Jura’s compact platform – with a 2.8-inch colour display and around 10 one-touch specialities.
  • Pulse Extraction Process, Aroma G3 grinder, and a one-touch milk system with automatic rinse.
  • Capacity: about 1.1-litre tank and 125g hopper – a day or two for one or two people, refills all day for a family.
  • Refurbished around $949 at the time of writing (new RRP about $1,595); 12-month warranty; $50 freight or free Melbourne pickup; Afterpay and PayPal Pay in 4 available.

Why the ENA 8 exists

Most Jura machines are 28–32cm wide and 35cm tall with the lid closed, which is fine in a kitchen and not fine in an apartment galley, a studio or a salon reception. The ENA 8 takes the E8’s extraction and milk automation and packages them in the narrowest body Jura makes, trading capacity for footprint. It is the machine we recommend when someone measures the bench and the E8 does not fit, and it is the one we put on reception counters for salons, studios and clinics.

What it does well

Full menu, small box

Ten drinks at one press, including a proper flat white. The milk system rinses itself after each drink, and the whole thing fills from the top like every Jura – allow height under cupboards.

The coffee

The same pulsed extraction as the E8, so short drinks are full and long blacks are good. The Aroma G3 grinder is quiet. Dry medium-roast beans – best beans for Jura machines.

Looks

The ENA 8 is the Jura that gets bought partly for how it looks on the bench – rounded body, colour finishes, the water tank on the side. Ours are used and will show marks; we send photos of the exact machine before it ships.

What it gives up

  • Tank and hopper. About 1.1 litres and 125g. One or two people refill every day or two; a family refills constantly. That is the whole trade-off.
  • Grounds container. Small. Empty it daily.
  • Drink count. Ten against the E8’s seventeen – the ones people use are all there.
  • Volume. Around 10 cups a day is the comfortable range. It is not an office machine, though it is a fine reception machine for a salon or clinic making a handful of client coffees.
